Final Standings
Final Standings and Account Balances for the 2009 NFL Pool.
Julian and Steve tied for 1st overall, so they will split the 1st and 2nd place prize.
Joe took 3rd overall, and won the suicide pool.
Steve took the 2nd half.
Julian took the 1st half.
Steve and Julian also won 3 weeks apiece, so they really were the big winners this year. Outstanding!
Congratulations to all of our winners this year and thanks to everyone for playing. For those that were pure donaters this year, THANKS! We’ll see you next year!
Tiebreaker
I just looked for the rules concerning a tie for first place overall. There aren’t any. And I don’t recall it ever happening before…
UPDATE – it happened in 2007 (oddly enough that one also involved Buckshot), and the tie stood!
So if NYJ can hold off the fierce Bengal attack and win by at least 10 then Steve and Buckshot will split the first place money.
Unexpected
In an unexpected (and wildly unpopular) move, Steve Moore has slipped into both the overall lead and the lead for the second half standings. With only one game left the second half money is locked up, but Julian could still tie Steve for the overall if the Jets can hold the line (-9.5) against Cincy tonight.
Good luck to both of you tonight!
Tino has a solo lock on third overall. Tino also won the Suicide Pool with his Minnesota pick and after Denver (Rich’s final pick) through up a turd against KC. Ouch. Congrats Tino!
Down to the short strokes…
Updated Standings and Account Balances.
With only one week of regular season play left in our pools, things are really heating up!
There are only two players (Rich and Tino) left in the suicide pool, and neither of them have easy picks ahead of them this week. If they both pick winners or losers then they will split the money. But if only one picks correct he will get all the bananas!
The main pool is also pretty tight after Julian gave up some of his lead in the overall in week 15, but managed to hold on pretty well in week 16, so he has a fairly comfortable 4 point lead. Not impossible to give that up, but he’s probably OK. There are 3 players in position to win the 2nd and 3rd place prizes.
I kinda sucked it up for the second half points by giving up 4 points to Joe in week 16, so he now sits in the lead by 1 point. That race is wide open with 4 players within 4 points of the lead. This will be a crazy week, with lots of teams sitting their regular starters while lots of other teams are still trying to clinch their playoff spots, so anything can happen!
Good luck to everyone for the final week of play, and start getting ready for the playoff pool too!
Friday Game this Week
Don’t let your guard down just because there are no Thursday games this week, because there is a game on Friday instead. Yes, that is Christmas Day! Remember to get your picks in prior to kickoff (7:30 PM EST) on Friday.
A blowout win…
Steve Moore has won the week already in a blowout victory. This was a tough week for many as not a single one of the favored teams had held the line on their spreads through the end of the early games on Sunday. The afternoon wasn’t much better as only 2 of 5 teams held. This was a disaster for anyone that took the “safe” road and played the favorites.
This was an especially good week for Steve as it allowed him to gain 8 points on Julian for the overall overall lead, putting him into 2nd! It also vaulted him into a good position to challenge for the second half lead as well. There are only a couple of weeks left for anyone wanting to make a move on the overall or second half points! I don’t think anyone has ever made such a large move in one day in our pools before!
Even worse for Julian was the Denver loss to Oakland, which knocked him out of the suicide pool. Only 3 players and 2 weeks left in that one!
Full Update
I’ve had a crazy few months with multiple computer failures and a long string of other unrelated computer issues that have prevented me from updating this site. That’s behind me now and I’ve finally managed to update the Standings and Account Balances.
You are probably well aware of it already, but Julian is having a banner season with 3 weekly wins under his belt, an easy victory in the first half, and a commanding lead in the overall competition. I was on the other end of that deal in the first half with no wins and a commanding grasp on the bottom of the barrel. fortunately I’ve turned that around somewhat and have managed a couple of wins and a thin lead in the second half. Here’s a summary of the winners of each week:
| Week | Winner |
| 1 | Robert Ballinger |
| 2 | Tino DiBattista |
| 3 | Jack Fraser |
| 4 | Julian Neale |
| 5 | Joe DiBattista |
| 6 | Julian Neale |
| 7 | Bob Lumley |
| 8 | Steve Ward |
| 9 | Adrian Neale |
| 10 | Steve Moore |
| 11 | Sean Phillips |
| 12 | Richard Powell |
| 13 | Sean Phillips |
| 14 | Julian Neale |
Another Exciting Week
It’s always fun when the week comes down to the Monday Night game. Week 4 was really great because the tiebreaker was a father/son duel between Adrian and Julian Neale for the cash. Even better, they both chose opposing teams!
Fortunately for the elder Neale, he chose to back the Favre train instead of the Rodgers train wreck. And it really was a huge train wreck! Rodgers threw up an interception and a fumble (both turnovers get converted into TD’s for Minnesota) and got crushed for 8 sacks. At one point he stood and watched as the defender ran straight at him from 15 yards away and never even thought about getting rid of the ball. He was the deer in the headlights on that one.
Unfortunately, the suicide pool was much less exciting as nobody bowed out. That’s two weeks in a row… Maybe next week will be a better week!
